A Talent to Revel In

Alejandro Ruiz, a local artist who goes by the name Revel, is quite the attention-grabber. Revel is a speed painter who performs live at events across Central Florida and the United States. He paints fast, with the art turned upside down to boot! And by fast, I mean he often completes paintings in less than seven minutes. Other pieces clock in at five minutes or less.

On May 6 and 7, Revel captivated audiences at the sixth annual St. Johns River Festival of the Arts in downtown Sanford. Crowds gathered around the energetic artist to watch and take photos as he painted in a prime spot right in the middle of First Street.

Revel's subject matter ranges from the religious to the iconic. Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah, the Statue of Liberty, and a Star Wars Storm Trooper are just a few of the images he frequently paints. Other subjects have included boxer Muhammad Ali and singer Elvis Presley.

The paintings he created at the St. Johns River art fest were auctioned off, with proceeds going to support the festival's Art for Kids program. Art for Kids encourages an appreciation of the arts by offering classes to underprivileged children living in Seminole County.

Revel, who attended the University of Central Florida, has appeared on the Praise the Lord television show on Trinity Broadcasting Network. To learn more about this fascinating Orlando talent, visit or his Facebook page.
