Local Girl Scouts "Clean The World"!

Wekiva Girl Scout Troop 1217 recently helped save lives by promoting cleanliness across the globe via their service project with Florida nonprofit organization Clean the World. With facilities in Orlando, Las Vegas, and Hong Kong, Clean the World collects and recycles discarded bars of soap and other toiletry items from hotels and then distributes their products to impoverished people across the globe.

The company sanitizes the soap and forms it into new bars, which are shipped to other countries where convenient access to soap could prevent the spread of disease. Clean the World also delivers recycled products and sanitation kits to local homeless shelters.

In preparation for their service project, the girls donated new bars of soap and collected hotel soaps and toiletries from their neighbors, friends, and family. They arrived with bags of donations and spent their morning sorting the soap and other items. Together with other volunteers from several different Central Florida organizations, the Wekiva Girl Scouts helped create 20,000 new toiletry kits and 10,000 new Clean the World bars of soap in one day.

The Junior Girl Scouts, about to enter the fourth and fifth grade, have been making a difference in our community since kindergarten. In addition to volunteering at Clean the World, the girls also had the opportunity to participate in more community service this year by learning to cook and serve a meal to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Keep up the great work in our community, Troop 1217!
