Cooler weather is headed our way and it just so happens to be Manatee Festival this weekend! It’s the perfect time to get outdoors and check out the largest spring on the St. John's River that happens to be only 30 minutes away.
Blue Spring State Park is a designated manatee refuge and the winter home to a growing population of West Indian Manatees. To celebrate, the 32nd Manatee Festival is being held this weekend, January 28-29 at Valentine Park in Orange City. There are only 2 festivals, the other being held in Crystal River. Manatee season runs from mid-November through March, and several hundred manatee can be viewed atop the spring’s overlooks on cold days during this time. The park covers more than 2,600 acres, so while you’re there, take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful Florida outdoors.
