And just like that, another Florida summer is upon us, but luckily you don’t have to go very far to enjoy our beautiful Sunshine State. Here are our top picks for fun things to do in your neighborhood and around town this summer.

Oviedo Splash Zone
Oviedo Aquatic Facility: 148 Oviedo Boulevard
New hours until August 9: Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
This state-of-the-art splash pad also offers a small wading area with playground equipment and slides. There is also a two-story waterslide that all kids will enjoy. Admission is $5 for Oviedo residents and $9 for nonresidents. For more information, call  407-971-5584.

Regal Summer Movie Express
Regal Cinemas, Oviedo Mall: 1500 Oviedo Marketplace Boulevard
Bring the family to Regal Cinemas at Oviedo Mall for its 2019 Summer Movie Express series. Movie ticket deals are $1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, featuring summer movies the whole family will enjoy like Shrek, Despicable Me, Kung Fu Panda, and many more.

Oviedo Farmers Market at the Lawton House
200 West Broadway Street: Saturday, August 3, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Oviedo Farmers Market is run by members of the Oviedo Historical Society. Support your local community and shop for seasonal produce, plants, honey, fresh breads, spices, soaps, candles, jerky, pickles, jams, and more. The market also features an artisan row with local potters, artists, and craftsmen. 

Rockin’ the Park

August 9, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. and August 10, 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Join music lovers on the amphitheatre lawn for two days of live entertainment, delicious food, and fun. Rockin’ the Park also serves as a local fundraiser to benefit Helpful Hands.

Spring Hammock Preserve, Winter Springs
The preserve is a great place to go on a hike. The 1,500-acre property is easy to explore with various trail options. It also features the Seminole County Environmental Studies Center, a shimmering spring, a floodplain forest, and many sights and sounds of nature. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. 

Black Hammock Adventures, Oviedo

Located at the end of a winding road through citrus groves, the complex features access to airboat rides and a popular restaurant and bar with live music. Guests can enjoy free alligator and bird exhibits and watch trainers feed alligators (Sundays only). A 30-minute airboat ride costs $27.95 for adults and $22.95 for kids age 10 and under. 

Lukas Nursery & Butterfly Encounter, Oviedo

The Lukas Nursery is home to one of the largest native butterfly conservatories in the state of Florida. Year-round, guests can mingle among chirping birds and feed butterflies from their fingertips. Peak season for an up-close experience is April through September. Admission is $6; free for kids age 3 and under.

 Maitland – Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

Located in the city of Maitland, the environmental center focuses on the rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and release of Florida’s raptors, and it provides other educational opportunities for all ages. The center is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children age 3 to 12, and free for kids age 3 and under. Visit

Winter Park – Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour 
312 East Morse Boulevard
Hop on an 18-passenger boat and cruise a pristine chain of lakes through canals and lush landscape. The tour is $14 for adults, $7 for children age 2-11. The tour company takes cash or check only. The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is a six-minute walk from the Winter Park Sunrail station. Visit

Downtown Orlando – SAK Comedy Lab

The 200-seat improv comedy theater features nightly improv comedy shows. Professional comedians compete for your laughs and make up songs, scenes, and characters on the spot.
