The Rotary Club of Casselberry’s free annual Arts Calendar is available while supplies last
Paintings and photographs epitomizing the beauty of Central Florida are prominently showcased in the Rotary Club of Casselberry’s 2020 Community Arts Calendar.
Thirteen pieces of art – one for every month of the year plus another for the cover – were selected by a panel of judges from the Rotary Club and the City of Casselberry. Thirty-seven artists submitted 80 entries for the calendar contest and its theme of Our Central Florida Community.
The calendar’s big reveal was held at the Casselberry Art House, which hosted an exhibit of the artwork featured therein, plus some of the other submitted entries. The images chosen to grace the calendar’s pages include a couple paddling a canoe along the Wekiva River and a serene view of Triplett Lake in Casselberry. A gorgeous painting of a bird soaring over the St. Johns River was selected as the cover art.
That acrylic painting, titled Evening Flight, was created by Michael Fargo, a retired firefighter from California who lives in Lake Mary. Other artists whose work was chosen for the 2020 calendar are Janet Asbury, Paulo Jimenez, Nancy Chenet, Kurt Harris, Rebecca Wilkinson, Mike Moore, Mark A. Bernhardt, Vera Gubnitskaia, Diana Eagles, Michael Bisceglia, Heather Nagy, and Ulysses Mora.
The calendar was launched in 2004 and has been produced every year except for one. Proceeds from sales of ads placed in the calendar benefit the Rotary Club’s community service initiatives. The Club’s outreach efforts include school essay and art contests, scholarship awards, meal-packing programs, and ramp-building projects, according to Mike Schaffer, the Rotary Club’s current president. About 2,500 calendars were printed and are available for free at the Casselberry Art House, while supplies last.
