Seminole County Public Library offers a wide range of programs to help you meet your goals.
2019 has arrived, a new year full of fresh opportunities. This is the season for setting goals and striving to establish healthy habits! In the midst of your resolution-making, however, you should know that you have an ally right here in your neighborhood that can help you follow through. If you’re looking for some New Year’s resolutions you can actually keep, look no further than the Seminole County Public Library.
Learn to play a musical instrument. Access professionally presented video tutorials (including music lessons for different instruments) on Lynda.com. Music lessons include guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo, drum set, voice, and piano. The Library’s free Lynda.com subscription can be accessed from the “Research” section of our website.
Spend more time together as a family. Bring the kids to Family Movie Nights, Bedtime Stories storytime, or another family event at the Library. Check the calendars on the “Kids” section of our website for details.
Challenge yourself to read one book per month. No time to read or check out books? Borrow one of our free downloadable audiobooks using the Libby app, and listen in the car.
Finally finish that knitting project. Each of our Library branches has a group for folks who knit, crochet, and work on other fiber crafts. Beginners are always welcome, and more experienced participants are willing to help get you started. Check the Events section of our website for dates, times, and locations.
Keep up to speed with the latest in technology, and learn about 3D printing. The Library now offers 3D printing services. Stop by the Central Branch to learn more about 3D printing and watch our printer in action. You can even submit a file to us to be printed: Click the Events section of our website and select 3D Printing Services.
Give your child a head-start on learning to read. Participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, which challenges parents and caregivers to read 1,000 picture books to their child before the child begins Kindergarten. Re-reading children’s favorite books is highly encouraged! Visit the “Kids” section of our website and click 1000 Books Before Kindergarten for detailed instructions.
Learn a new language. Access free language instruction in over 70 world languages, with interactive practice tutorials that progress with you. The Library’s Mango Languages subscription can be accessed from the Research section of our website.
After practicing your Spanish, immerse yourself in Spanish culture. Tertulia Cuatro Gatos is a Spanish-language gathering that celebrates Spanish literature, art, music, culture, poetry, and history. It is held on the first Wednesday of the month at our Central Branch (Casselberry), and on the third Thursday of the month at our Northwest Branch (Lake Mary). Check the Events page of our website to confirm dates and times.
Improve your business acumen. The Business section of our website contains a business startup guide and other valuable resources for individuals looking to start or grow their own businesses. Watch for the announcement of our next business workshop series, coming soon in the spring.
Volunteer your time. Volunteering at the Seminole County Public Library is fun and fulfilling work. The Library takes on both adult and teen volunteers; teens can even earn service credit towards a Bright Futures college scholarship. Check with your closest Library branch about volunteer opportunities.
