Hundreds of Seminole County Public School students recently participated in a drug free contest featuring essays and art work. One of our favorite young people, Faith Hayden, was the winner of the the 7th grade essay contest. We loved her essay so much, we thought we would share it with you. Faith, who is a student at Millennium Middle School, was recognized at an awards ceremony, along with the other winners. She also received a $100 gift card to Target!

Here is Faith's essay-
Why do drugs?
Why is life better when you aren’t doing drugs? I get it you are having a horrible day but what will drugs fix? They won’t make you feel better or any happier. So is there really a need to hurt yourself over and over again by continuously doing drugs.
All it does is make you sick. Drugs should have a label that says “Do you want to have cancer one day?” Have you ever wondered why drugs are called drugs? Strange question, I know but I will tell you why anyway. The exact definition of the word drugs is a chemical substance that affects the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior and often addiction. Some say it was only once but as it says before there’s a strong chance of addiction occurring. You have a brain so use it. Drugs put your life in danger along with everyone around you. “Nobody cares what happens to me.” Are you sure? Not one person on the entire world. Somebody cares. How will they feel when you are half dead in the hospital? More importantly how will you feel? If you think I’m exaggerating. You have a lot to learn.
Do you know how much damage drugs do to your body? Think of the people not able to do anything because they were born with bad organs. Now look at someone doing drugs. They have perfectly working organs but they choose to throw their life away. It ruins your lungs, kidneys, even your brain and that’s not the complete list of everything hurt by drugs. Meanwhile those people with bad organs sit at a hospital wishing they had better organs. So, they could go run outside and live their lives to the fullest. In conclusion there is no reason to do drugs.
