In 2007, Shane Lillibridge lost both his parents to cancer. This year, in honor of his beloved parents, he is supporting the American Cancer Society by vowing to donate $5 for every pound he loses between March 1 and October 1.
Everyone who knows him loves him. Shane Lillibridge is always the first one to volunteer to help any one of his friends, of which there are many, with both time and treasure. He’s sweet, funny, self-deprecating, and often wears his heart on his sleeve.
In a recent Facebook post, Shane shared that in 2007 he lost both of his parents to cancer. The American Cancer Society has reached out to him to participate in the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign in association with the Making Strides for Breast Cancer march that will be held in October. Shane has accepted this invitation to raise funds for ACS.
“For every pound I lose between March 1 and October 1 I am going to donate $5 to the American Cancer Society,” said Shane in a recent Facebook post. He invited his friends to join in pledging either per pound or a set amount. He also asked for some emotional support for Team Shane. Aside from pledging a healthier diet, Shane will be walking every Tuesday and Thursday - as well as an occasional Sunday.
On March 1 Shane told his story and weighed in before a cheering crowd of fellow members of the Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce. He tipped the scale at 310 lbs.
All of Shane’s friends at Lake Mary Life wish him the best of luck on this journey - both for health and to remember his beloved parents. Be sure to visit Shane’s Facebook page for updates and to lend your support.
Part of the challenge, he explained, is to wear pink every day. “If any of you see me between now and October 1 and I’m not wearing pink,” Shane said calling upon his dry humor, “call me out on it - but remember, I may be wearing pink somewhere that you cannot see!”
