Palm Valley, a senior residential community in Oviedo, is home to many artistic types who enjoy drawing, painting, and creating other works of art. In fact, the residents’ interest in arts and crafts is so strong that the community boasts not one, but two art clubs.

The groups, the Art Lover's Club and Brushstrokes & More, are open to everyone who lives in the mobile-home community for ages 55 and up. The Art Lover's Club meets the second Monday of the month, and Brushstrokes meets most Friday evenings.

Every year, members of the clubs display their handiwork with two open-to-the-public shows: a fine art exhibit in the spring and an arts and crafts show during the holidays. Club members aren’t the only ones showing off their artistic skills, though. All Palm Valley residents are welcome to participate in the shows, regardless of whether they belong to either club.

This year’s spring show, Art in the Valley, will be presented from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, at the community’s clubhouse at 500 East Palm Valley Drive. The exhibit will feature paintings, photography, drawings, wood carvings, and more with a plethora of items for sale. Admission and parking are free, and lunch will be available for purchase.
“There are so many types of art and artistic mediums that are represented,” says Lynn Kwitt, a Palm Valley resident who isn’t an artist herself but has a deep appreciation for art. “It’s fabulous.”

Gladys Caughel, a painter and co-founder of the Art Lover's Club, seconds Lynn’s sentiments.

“We have a strong art community here and a lot of talent,” says Gladys, a Minnesota native who paints everything from wildlife to landscape scenes.

In addition to the two big shows, the community’s artists display their work at the clubhouse year-round, switching out the pieces every three months.

For details about the spring show, call Lynn at 707-280-5449 or email Gladys at GCaughel2@gmail.com.
