The grand opening of AdventHealth’s new stand-alone emergency department in Oviedo is getting closer! The brand-new, high-quality option for emergency care will likely be a game changer for the community, increasing healthcare access and bringing new jobs to the area.

Jennifer Wandersleben, administrator of AdventHealth Winter Park, notes that many Oviedo and Winter Springs residents are already established patients in the AdventHealth Care Network and often prefer to stay within the AdventHealth network when they need emergency care.

Oviedo and Winter Springs are already home to the comprehensive AdventHealth Care Network with extensive primary care, specialty physicians, sports medicine and rehab, urgent care, imaging services, and lab care offered in the area.

Body, mind, and spirit

“The new ER will provide even more capacity to serve the healthcare needs of the community, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” Jennifer says. “That means more patients will be able to get treatment right here, rather than traveling out of the area. And that’s important, because allowing patients to be treated close to home is important to the  healing process.”

AdventHealth’s commitment to whole-person care extends even into the emergency room. Each and every person is complex and unique.

“When you undergo a health change, it’s more than just your physical body that requires healing,” says Jennifer. “Whole-person care means that while we respond to your emergency with the most advanced treatments and cutting-edge technologies, we also address your fears and challenges as you recover. Our care coordinators are there to help guide emergency patients through the entire healthcare journey – making appointments, answering questions, and finding resources.”

AdventHealth was founded on the belief that treating patients with dignity and kindness with world-class expertise will allow patients to not only heal, but become their best selves again.

“The AdventHealth mission, Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ, is about meeting you wherever you are with the kind of support you need,” Jennifer says. “We’re constantly seeking new ways to serve you better and make your healthcare experience easier. The idea for a new ER serving Oviedo and Winter Springs was born out of that philosophy.”

In addition to 24 patient beds, the new ER will include:

• Respiratory therapy; diagnostic imaging including CT, X-ray, and ultrasound; and a full-service laboratory on-site

• Two pediatric-friendly rooms for younger patients

Know where to go
Jennifer reminds patients that they have many options for healthcare in the area including AdventHealth Centra Care and virtual physician visits through AdventHealth’s eCare app.

“Each person’s needs require unique levels of care, depending on their symptoms,” Jennifer says. She recommends using the AdventHealth Know Where to Go chart to determine the best course of action, when necessary:
