Heather Loomis, Lake Mary Life’s art director, shares her firsthand experience rebuilding her body at BeFIT
Having a baby is no joke, and neither is the 50 pounds I gained. As a first-time mom and a health-conscious person, I was concerned about losing the baby weight I’d put on while I was pregnant with my daughter Reagan, but I found all the help I needed just a stone’s throw from our office on Lake Mary Boulevard.
To get back on track, I joined BeFIT Health Studio and started training twice a week with Jeremy Cook, one of the studio’s co-owners and personal trainers. I have been a gym-goer since I was in high-school, but I had never worked out with a trainer before. Now, I can’t imagine getting fit, and staying fit, without one.
All the trainers – Jeremy, co-owner Justin Bedor, Aaron Ancelet, DJ McEntire, Jodi DeGraff, and Thomas Plum – make the workouts fun and challenging, and it’s so much more personal. When I hurt my shoulder playing volleyball, Jeremy modified the exercises so I got in a great workout without re-injuring it. After I healed, he picked exercises to help strengthen the muscles in and around my shoulder, and now I am back on the court pain free.
When I couldn’t find time to run because of work and Reagan, Jeremy let me borrow his jogging stroller so I could hit the pavement without sacrificing time with my daughter.
The trainers at BeFIT have become great friends, too. We swap stories about our kids as we move through each session’s exercises, and the studio is always organizing lively football, basketball, and golf pools for some extra fun.
It’s also so nice to know the BeFIT crew is supporting the community where we all live and work. I constantly see Jeremy, co-owner Justin, and the rest of the staff involved in a number of charitable causes. And I see them out on the trails, too, where we exchange a wave and big hello as we pass each other while biking or jogging on weekends.
It’s been over a year since I started working out at BeFIT. Every session has been different, and I’ve gotten to try out new equipment and do creative workouts that I would never have done myself. I’ve lost all the baby weight, gained muscle, and I fit into all of my pre-pregnancy clothes. I feel so much better mentally and physically, and I’m getting stronger every day.
