At Dunwoody Dental in Sanford, time flies when you’re having fun!
If you are scratching your head and wondering how fun a visit to the dentist can actually be, it’s time to come in and experience the Dunwoody Dental difference for yourself. The office’s quaint, trendy waiting area is lively with neighbors greeting one another and chatting while they enjoy a fresh cup of coffee. Cheerful staff members welcome each patient with a smile. Pleasant and professional, the jovial setting feels more like a casual catch-up with friends than a typical visit to the dentist office.
“I’ve been coming to Dunwoody Dental for nine years since they opened,” one loyal patient gushes. “And I can’t wait to show them my daughter’s wedding pictures.”
“We love the people we work with, and we really enjoy getting to know our patients and hearing about what’s going on in their lives,” says Dr. Amy Hertz, who co-owns the dental practice with her longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Minta Lopez-Torres.
A former Lake Mary High School graduate, Amy met Minta in dental school at the University of Florida, where the pair became fast friends and study partners due to their mutual dedication and shared passion in the field of oral healthcare. After completing dental school, both women moved to this area and decided to join forces with a common goal to provide the highest level of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental care to their community.
By opening and becoming co-owners of their own practice, the doctors are able to control both the quality of service and the attention to detail that their patients deserve. Because they take time to learn about each individual, Dr. Hertz and Dr. Lopez-Torres are proficient at addressing specific needs and diagnosing overall health issues to ensure that their patients can enjoy a lifetime with a beautiful, healthy smile. All patients receive a comprehensive initial screening where they can share critical health information, and the dentists also routinely screen and diagnose patients who suffer from sleep apnea disorder.
“We really care about the entire person, not just your teeth,” says Dr. Lopez-Torres, who explains that she and Dr. Hertz are often able to help patients get relief from obstructive sleep apnea caused when the tongue or other soft tissues block the airway during sleep. If left untreated, sleep apnea can result in a growing number of health problems from tiredness and headaches to more serious health concerns such as high blood pressure and stroke.
In addition to creating custom mouth appliances that provide relief from sleep apnea, the doctors offer Botox treatments to relieve headaches and prevent the clenching and grinding of teeth. Of course, Botox is also beneficial in approving the appearance of wrinkles.
“We are constantly learning new techniques and gaining advanced skills through continuing education,” says Dr. Hertz.
And while the doctors love to share the latest scoop on cosmetic dentistry with their patients, they are never pushy.
“We understand that everyone has busy lives, and we want our patients to feel comfortable knowing that we will meticulously care for them, but they have the ultimate say in their own healthcare decisions,” says Dr. Lopez-Torres.
If anyone understands busy, it’s these two hardworking women. Besides being wives, dentists, and business owners, Dr. Hertz is a mother to four kids (including a set of triplets), and Dr. Lopez-Torres has three kids of her own. To be sure, the fact that they keep so many balls in the air at one time only gives them extra empathy and compassion for their patients.
“We know your time is precious, so we strive to provide the best individualized care possible,” says Dr. Hertz, who appreciates the fact that their entire staff is both efficient and caring. “We have a personal connection with so many of our patients, and I can’t believe we have been practicing here for over nine years... Wow, the time has really flown by!”
