Let’s list some healthcare hassles: Scheduling an appointment days or weeks away to see a doctor. Going somewhere else to pick up your prescription. Traveling yet again for lab work or to get blood drawn. Now, imagine being able to do it all quickly and conveniently under one roof.
If you take all the inconveniences, solve them by rolling them into a single, comprehensive, light and airy, newly renovated one-stop location, you have the Florida Health Care Plans (FHCP) Care Center and pharmacy at GuideWell Medical Center off Rinehart Road in Lake Mary.
“We are doing things differently to be innovative and deliver better care,” says Lisa Byrd, the Care Center’s administrator, a nurse practitioner who previously owned her own medical practice. Believing in the vision put forth by FHCP, Lisa came to Florida from Mississippi to lead the new site.
For patients who have Florida Health Care or Florida Blue myBlue insurance, the FHCP Care Center is a convenient place to see doctors and fill prescriptions in the pharmacy right downstairs. Many Blue Cross Blue Shield members can use the full pharmacy as well – a helpful convenience if you live or work nearby.
Along with the clinic and pharmacy, the Care Center also provides X-ray and infusion services, ultrasounds, lab-sample collection services, bariatric and orthopedic specialty care, and more. All of it makes getting healthcare easier and more convenient for FHCP or Florida Blue myBlue patients.
But the main focus, says Lisa, is preventative medicine. It’s less risky for patients and their families, and more cost-effective for all concerned.
“We want folks to have annual physicals, not to come to the doctor only when they are sick,” Lisa says, noting that preventative-care visits can help patients discover they are pre-diabetic or have high cholesterol or thyroid disease.
The Guidewell Center is a hub for preventive care such as prostate and colon cancer screenings and ordering mammograms. Patients never feel rushed whether the visit is for a checkup or screening. Every patient gets sufficient time with teams of physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses. Two full-time case managers coordinate complex cases, such as patients with multiple chronic conditions.
Community support is also a priority for FHCP at its new Lake Mary Guidewell Center. Patient education and support groups meet at the site, and a community room at the facility is available for local groups and organizations to use for free.
New patients of all ages are welcome. The FHCP Care Center staff looks forward to meeting you.
