Holy Cross Lutheran Academy 2019

In 1984, the brand-new Holy Cross Lutheran Church hosted a Preschool Story Time program for the community. Parents cherished the chance to bring their little ones to a safe, nurturing environment where their minds could blossom, and those same parents encouraged the church to launch a full-service preschool.

In 1999, Holy Cross Lutheran Academy opened the school’s doors to the entire Seminole County community, and it has only grown since. Twenty years later, the nationally-accredited school, which aims to strengthen students and families to live a transformed life through Christ, serves children at every stage of their academic career, from preschool through high school. And its first class of seniors will graduate in May.

“We are beaming with pride as we reach this important milestone in our school’s 20-year history,” says Betty Hoyer, director of education at Holy Cross Lutheran Academy. “Having grown from an early-childhood education provider to a well-known institute of learning has been an inspiring journey led by our faith in Jesus Christ and driven by our commitment to the community.

“We are dedicated to providing an educational environment that benefits the whole child, preparing them each step of the way for their next level of education and for eternity,” Betty continues. “We challenge the academic development of all children in a setting that nurtures the gifts each child possesses while fostering a spiritual climate that encourages an active faith in our Lord and Savior.”

Today, more than 500 Holy Cross students are challenged daily by caring teachers to stretch both their minds and hearts, including senior David DeVore. David holds the Academy’s record for most years of enrollment, having joined the school’s roster in first grade.

“At Holy Cross, everyone knows everyone – you’re not just a number,” David says. “All students matter and are given individualized attention throughout all of their classes.”

“We have been at Holy Cross for 10 years,” adds David’s dad, David Sr. “We couldn’t be happier with the education our children have received, the experiences they have had, and the relationships they have built. The faculty and staff there are excellent. There is something unique about Holy Cross for sure.”

That well-rounded educational experience also includes access to seven team sports; fine-arts programs including theater, band, and chorus; and high-school Advanced Placement courses.

With campuses in Lake Mary and Sanford, Holy Cross Lutheran Academy serves families across Central Florida. To learn more about the school’s admission process or to request a campus tour, visit TheHCLA.org or call 407-936-3636.
