The J. Douglas Williams YMCA in Lake Mary is more than a health club. It is a gathering place that strengthens our community, both inside and out. In addition to its many wellness programs, the Y has the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver lasting personal and social change by providing opportunities to give back while supporting neighbors in the form of financial assistance.
The Y mobilizes our community and creates impact every day by engaging residents to volunteer their time, give financial resources, and advocate for pressing issues affecting our local community.
Through volunteer and community support, the Y achieves victories that are not determined by scoreboards but won when an individual makes a healthy choice, a mentor inspires a kid, or a community comes together to give, volunteer, and advocate for pressing local issues.
All of this complements the Y’s fundamental mission to give every neighbor the chance to live the healthiest, happiest life possible. More than 74 group exercise classes are offered weekly at the Y. From Les Mills Body Pump to Yoga, cycle, boot camp, Pilates, and water fitness – there are classes for everyone at all levels of fitness.
Wellness coaches are available to help individuals get started and stay on a positive track. Nationally certified personal trainers can enhance the workout experience. Individuals, couples, or small groups can also have personalized wellness programs developed to meet their specific goals and needs.
In addition, the Y is proactive in the prevention of chronic disease. Special health service programs like Diabetes Prevention and Livestrong educate the community about ways to reduce the risk of chronic illness. Programs are available to help those who battle these conditions on a daily basis.
Child development is another area in which the Y excels. Children participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities in a stimulating, warm, and nurturing environment while parents enjoy the benefits of stress-free exercise time. A family atmosphere can be felt throughout the facility.
Other popular activities include the youth sports programs featuring basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, and speed lacrosse. Adult volunteer coaches provide crucial role-modeling and positive interaction while kids learn teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Aquatics also plays a large role at the Y, beginning with the SafeStart infant swim program. Swimming lessons can continue for swimmers of all skill levels, including adults. The Y is the host facility for the Lake Mary High School swim team and water polo teams, as well.
The Y is a vital addition to our community...there is something for everyone at the J. Douglas Williams YMCA.
