Lake Mary Preparatory School is gearing up to celebrate its 20-year anniversary during the 2018-2019 school year.
Offering pre-K3 through 12th grade, the school has a lot to celebrate. A 525-student population ensures small classes that are student-centered and tightly focused, says Rachel Freeman, marketing and admissions specialist.
“The ability to do everything here is really true,” she explains. “Because of the size of our school, a lot of our students can be involved in everything including archery, fine arts, athletics, student government, clubs, honor society, and yearbook, just to name a few. A lot of students find their niche here.”
Lake Mary Prep boasts a number of highly regarded athletic and fine arts offerings, a state-of-the-art STEM program, and two new makerspaces. Upper school students recently began competing in robotics competitions, and a new AP computer science class was added to Lake Mary Prep’s existing roster of 21 AP courses. Additional levels of robotics and coding classes will start next year, as well.
In addition to the small class sizes, “most families come here because we are a true college prep,” says Rachel. “That is our focus for all of our academia here. Students are focusing on their prep skills in elementary school, furthering those in middle school, and continuing in high school to get that college acceptance.”
The results speak for themselves: Lake Mary Prep has posted a 100 percent college-acceptance rate for years.
What solidifies the high rate of college acceptance is Lake Mary Prep’s AP Capstone program, a college board program that gives high schoolers the chance to research and prepare presentations on advanced topics, much like they would in college. Lake Mary Prep is the first private school in Central Florida to implement the AP Capstone course.
The Capstone students work in small teams, researching and defending their thesis in front of a panel.
“It’s the ultimate college preparation,” says Rachel. “It’s outstanding on college applications.”
The flags on display in front of Lake Mary Prep aren’t just for decoration. This is an international school, with more than 57 different nationalities, represented by more than 80 international learners in its student body.
“We are focused on diversity, unity, and inclusion,” explains Rachel.
Lake Mary Prep’s mission is to embrace its foundation as a global community school, and there’s a lot to celebrate. As the 20th anniversary celebration ramps up, keep an eye out for more information about various events to honor the school’s alumni, current students, faculty, and staff.
