New Lockers at the Seminole County Public Library

A s we all know, the past year or so did not play out like anyone was expecting. At the Seminole County Public Library, we hosted virtual library programs on Zoom, bolstered our collection of eBooks, and found other creative ways to serve our community of lifelong learners and readers.

One of our favorite new adaptations recently made its debut: Library Lockers at every one of our Seminole County Public Library branches. The purchase of these lockers was funded by a CARES Act grant, but even though new COVID-19 cases are now on the decline, our new lockers are a hit with library users on the go.

When you place an item on hold through the online Library Catalog, you now have the option to select the locker of your most convenient library branch as your pick-up location. I live closest to the Central Branch, so I would select “Central Branch Pick-Up Locker” as my pick-up location. Instead of having to visit the Circulation counter, I can now walk a few steps into the Library lobby area, scan my library card at the lockers’ computer screen, and the locker containing the book I placed on hold will pop open. The book will automatically be checked out to me when the locker opens, so I can simply take it and leave.

“We are so excited about providing this service, not only because it helps during a pandemic, but it is also great for busy people anytime,” says Library Division Manager Christine Patten. “This is all about quick access and making reading as accessible as possible.”

So the next time you hear about a great new book you’d like to read, check out our Catalog at, and give our new lockers a try. They’re convenient, easy to use, and designed to help you make reading a regular habit. Unlock your next read with us!
