Strong Relationships Build Stronger Schools

Every day, our educators and staff at Seminole County Public Schools build relationships with our students. When a teacher greets a student by name, notices a new interest, or celebrates a hard-earned breakthrough, learning takes root. Students who feel known and valued are more confident, more curious, and more willing to take the risks that real learning requires. They are willing to try challenging work and bounce back from setbacks because they know a caring adult believes in them.

The productive relationships our educators build with students and families are the foundation of everything we do. A teacher who understands what motivates a child can make a lesson come alive. A bus driver's friendly greeting and a Red Apple Dining worker's smile all remind students that they belong.

Seeing the Big Picture

Those relationships grow even stronger when families are part of the picture. Parents and caregivers know their children better than anyone. Our teachers, administrators, and staff bring expertise, experience, and a deep commitment to student success. When the two come together, students benefit in powerful ways, and the results show.

As students progress through their SCPS educational experience, there may be a need for deeper discussions related to how best to serve a student or answer a family’s questions. The first point of contact is always the student’s teacher. An email or phone call letting the teacher know the topic for discussion or specific questions ensures that the resulting discussion will be productive for the family. In some situations, after speaking with the teacher, the next step may be to speak with the student’s school counselor, assistant principal, or principal so that resulting action items are clear to both the family and the educators.

Working as a Team

Strong partnerships with families make possible a myriad of student opportunities by providing a fuller picture of each child. Families share a child's strengths, interests, routines, and dreams, and educators share what they see in the classroom. Together, they can tailor support and encouragement for the whole student.

When educators and families talk about what excites a child, they can connect that child to the right opportunity. Middle and high school students can choose from dozens of Career and Technical Education programs, and our Career & Professional Education academies lead to industry certifications, dual enrollment, and/or college credit. Magnet programs focus on themes such as fine arts and communications, math, science, and technology, and pre-engineering, and they are open to all Seminole County students. Academies in areas such as aviation, automotive, cyber security and health, just to name a few, offer even more ways for students to pursue their passions. Whether a student's path leads to college, a career, the military, or the arts, we have programs to help them get there.

Thank you for working alongside us to help every student find their path, discover their potential, and build a future filled with possibility.
