Skinology Medical Spa

For two decades, Skinology Medical Spa in Oviedo has built its reputation on a three-pronged philosophy. As the practice approaches its 20th anniversary, owners Dr. Jeffry Rocker and his wife, Selena, have never wavered from their initial vision.
“From the very beginning, we wanted to offer excellent aesthetic care, state-of-the-art technology, and the best customer service – all at fair prices,” says Dr. Rocker, Skinology’s medical director. “And we have continued to do that.”
The Rockers’ commitment has remained at the heart of their practice, even as the medical spa industry has evolved. There are now far more med spas in the area than when Skinology opened, and industry treatments and products have changed dramatically. Yet through it all, the Rockers have emphasized research, education, and keeping current with innovations that can best benefit their clients.
Wave of the Future
The practice’s motto, Where Science Meets Skin, reflects that approach. Skinology offers an extensive menu of spa, skincare, and anti-aging services provided by a highly trained team overseen by Dr. Rocker.
Skinology’s newest addition is Sofwave, an ultrasound-based, skin-tightening technology designed to stimulate collagen and elastin. The treatment offers another option for clients seeking a more youthful appearance, particularly in areas that can be difficult to treat, such as the neck and jawline.
“We always have clients asking, ‘What can you do for my neck?’” says Selena. “There just haven’t been that many options. This is the most effective we’ve seen.”
Unlike treatments that require a series of appointments, Sofwave can produce results with a single service, although additional treatments can be performed for enhanced results. Because collagen production takes time, improvements can continue to develop for several months. Maintenance treatments can also be considered as the natural aging process continues. Skinology will begin offering Sofwave treatments in early September.
Welcome to the Team
As Skinology continues to grow, new staff members are being added. To date, Dr. Rocker has personally administered all injectables, including Botox and dermal fillers. But in October, nurse practitioner Claire He will join the team as an experienced injector. Claire and Dr. Rocker will both work to maintain the customized client approach that has been part of the practice’s identity from the beginning.
The medical spa is also adding another esthetician and a front desk team member, who will join long-time staffers Susan Haynes and Michelle Masters. Susan, the practice manager, has been with Skinology for eight years, while Michelle, a licensed esthetician, has been there for five years. Clients enjoy experiencing that sense of familiarity and continuity when they walk through the door.
At Skinology, team members greet everyone personally, help with paperwork, and take time to understand clients’ desired outcomes. They also look for ways to help customers save money through available promotions and product manufacturer programs.
“We have so many long-time clients and we’re proud of that,” says Selena. “It’s about making them feel welcome and assuring them they are in good hands.”
Oviedo resident Beverly Evans says that’s exactly what the team at Skinology does for her. She has been receiving Botox, facials, B-12 injections, and other treatments there almost as long as the practice has been open.
“They’re just great,” she says. “I have stuck with them all this time for many reasons.”
Beverly especially appreciates that Dr. Rocker always listens to her and suggests services and products based on her desire to have a refreshed appearance, not a frozen face.
“I like a natural look, so he never tries to upsell me to get more,” says Beverly, 73. “I always look natural after his treatments.”
In an industry where trends come and go, Skinology has remained focused on combining innovation with offering personalized service to the Oviedo community and building valued relationships with clients.
