A New Year of Opportunity and Deepening Connections in SCPS
Serita D. BeamonAs the calendar turns to a new year, a renewed sense of energy and possibility washes over our community. Here in Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS), January always feels like a special time, a bridge between the successful close of one calendar year and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for our students, families, and staff.
For me, the new year is not just about turning a page; it’s about deepening our connections and making intentional choices that reinforce the foundation of excellence upon which our school district is built. We are committed to providing a world-class education for every single student, and that commitment begins with a strong partnership between home, school, and community.
A key part of our excellence is the wide array of exceptional educational choices available right here in your public school system. We believe that providing diverse, high-quality options ensures every student can find the learning environment where they can truly thrive.
For parents exploring these opportunities, I want to highlight an important window: January 1 through March 1 marks our open enrollment period for elementary magnet and region schools. This is the time to explore programs designed to ignite your child’s passion, whether it’s in global studies, STEM, or the arts.
- Elementary Magnet Schools offer unique, specialized curricula that attract students from across the district.
- Region Schools provide a choice option for families residing in specific elementary zones within Lake Mary and Sanford.
I encourage every interested family to visit the SCPS Student Assignment and Program Access website at www.SCPS.us/SAPA to learn more about our offerings and the application process. The opportunity to select the educational pathway that best suits your child's needs is one of the distinct advantages of being an SCPS family.
Beyond programs and test scores, our district is intentionally focused on building meaningful relationships. Educational uncertainty and shifting expectations worldwide make it more critical than ever to ensure our students, teachers, and staff feel supported and connected. Words and actions at the top of our organization are meant to permeate every classroom, fostering a culture of belonging, safety, and care.
This is where the power of community truly shines. Our dedicated teachers, staff, School Board, and the incredible men and women on our PTAs, advisory boards, and Dividend volunteers go above and beyond daily to enrich the learning experience. They provide crucial resources, volunteer countless hours, and advocate tirelessly for our students.
The success of our school system is inextricably linked to the prosperity of our entire community, and that is why community support is so vital. Research consistently shows that a strong, high-performing public school system is a powerful driver of economic stability.
Quality education creates a pipeline of skilled workers, which is a major factor for new businesses looking to relocate and invest in the region. When we invest in our schools, we are collectively investing in greater economic opportunity and a higher quality of life for all residents.
As we step into this new year, let us commit to deepening our connections between schools and families, between the district and our business partners, and within the wider Seminole County community. Your continued engagement and support ensure that SCPS remains a source of immense pride and a beacon of educational opportunity. I look forward to the great things we will accomplish together in 2026!
