Artisan Dental
by Georgia Rivas
Under the leadership of Dr. Mary Isaacs and Dr. Kathryn Miller, Artisan Dental in Winter Springs has become a destination for patients seeking not just beautiful smiles, but a deeper understanding of their overall health. With a philosophy rooted in the connection between oral health and total wellness, Artisan Dental is truly ahead of its time.
As a certified provider of the BaleDoneen Method, Artisan Dental goes far beyond routine cleanings. This advanced approach focuses on identifying early signs of heart disease and stroke through oral diagnostics. Using tools like HR5 and SimplyPERIO saliva testing, the team analyzes bacteria to detect high-risk pathogens linked to systemic inflammation.
This is dentistry at the cellular level. Rather than simply treating plaque, the team emphasizes patient education, illustrating how oral bacteria can impact the entire body. This proactive, preventive model has become so effective that physicians and heart prevention specialists frequently refer patients to Artisan Dental.
A Personal Mission for Systemic Health
For Dr. Isaacs, her commitment to systemic care is deeply personal. She vividly recalls sitting in a doctor’s office waiting room with her husband when he was only 40 years old. At the time, he already had six cardiac stents and severe sleep apnea.
“It wasn’t just that he snored – he would stop breathing,” she says.
That experience sparked a decades-long journey into airway health, ultimately leading to solutions that transformed his life.
At Artisan Dental, this expertise extends to pediatric care. The practice specializes in identifying airway issues that are often misdiagnosed as ADHD. Parents are guided through an inventory of signs – mouth breathing, bedwetting, and crowded teeth – that point to underlying airway concerns affecting sleep, behavior, and development.
Early intervention for patients, sometimes as young as age three, can be life-changing. Through myofunctional therapy and noninvasive Vivos appliances, the practice supports natural airway development in both children and adults. For those who cannot tolerate CPAP machines, these oral appliances provide comfortable, effective alternatives for treating sleep apnea – what Dr. Isaacs calls “the issue of the century.”
Minimally Invasive Innovation
Cosmetic dentistry is also an integral part of what Artisan Dental offers.
“I try to be as minimally invasive as possible,” says Dr. Isaacs. “I treat patients the way I would want to be treated.”
Using the Bioclear Method, the team can wrap teeth with composite material, preserving natural enamel and helping patients avoid the traditional cycle of crowns and root canals. The practice also embraces advanced materials, such as hydroxyapatite-based products, to support enamel health naturally.
Technology is the backbone of these treatments. With state-of-the-art 3D X-ray imaging, the team evaluates airways, jaw structures, and sinuses in remarkable detail, allowing for highly personalized treatment plans.
A Legacy of Service
For more than 30 years, Artisan Dental has been a trusted part of the Winter Springs community.
“I’ve always wanted to live where I work and invest in my community,” says Dr. Isaacs.
Her impact also extends globally. From Nicaragua to Africa, Dr. Isaacs has provided dental care to underserved populations and has a mission trip planned to Sri Lanka.
“My patients have been so supportive of my work, my mission trips, and all the causes close to my heart,” she says.
Locally, Dr. Isaacs invests in the next generation through her Women in Science Scholarship for female high-school students interested in studying STEM-related subjects. She mentors students in the University of Central Florida predental club and teaches other dentists about restorative dentistry. Dr. Isaacs also completes more than 500 hours of continuing education annually. She holds a Diplomate designation from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and is considered an expert in the dental sleep medicine field.
“I have a wonderful career with no immediate plans to retire,” she says. “I love giving people back their smiles, helping them sleep better, and freeing them of pain.”
At its core, Artisan Dental is more than a practice – it’s a mission. By focusing on the whole person, Dr. Isaacs and her team are helping patients live their healthiest, best lives.
