TotalWell Health Clinic
by Beverly Sorrells
Since opening its doors in Winter Springs last year, TotalWell Health Clinic has been redefining what it means for area residents to have a true medical home.
Led by board-certified family medicine physicians Dr. Joseph Johnson and Dr. Joan Coupland, this independent practice is committed to personalized, relationship-driven care for its patients. Supporting the doctors is a dedicated team of one nurse, three medical assistants, and two front desk professionals who keep things running smoothly from start to finish.
Preventive care and chronic disease management are central to the practice, with a focus on conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. Yet the team’s approach goes far beyond checklists and prescriptions.
“We want to take more time focusing on how patients can be healthier, rather than trying to manage their illness after it happens,” says Dr. Johnson.
Patients are encouraged to better understand their health, make sustainable lifestyle changes, and take an active role in their own well-being.
Convenience is a key part of the practice. Saturday hours and same-day acute care visits offer an alternative to crowded urgent care centers, especially for unexpected illnesses or minor injuries. In-office testing and procedures, including lab tests and laceration repair, mean faster answers and treatment from a team that already knows the patient’s health history.
That focus on convenience extends to services like telehealth visits and even home visits for patients who have difficulty getting to the office.
“A lot of it comes down to meeting the patient where they are,” says Dr. Johnson. “You really try to see what works best for them.”
Looking ahead, the practice is expanding its offerings with in-house IV therapies, including medically indicated treatments such as Reclast infusion therapy for osteoporosis, as well as elective options for overall wellness. Plans are being made to offer patient education classes in the fall.
TotalWell Health Clinic serves patients ages 10 and up, including busy professionals, families, and those managing chronic conditions or looking to stay ahead of them. It’s a place where patients can build real relationships with their care team.
