Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

by Jill Duff-Hoppes

Jerry Schiavo, who owns Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Oviedo, loves the classic movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. When Jerry serves up scoops of ice cream from his store’s walk-up window at Oviedo on the Park, he feels like the candy shop owner in the film – the guy who croons “The Candy Man” song to a group of wide-eyed kids. But instead of showering customers with candy, Jerry delights in dishing out delectable ice cream.

Jerry opened his Bruster’s shop in July 2025 and has already exceeded corporate expectations for a new store. This spring, he’ll add a Bruster’s ice cream truck, which he hopes will become a fixture for catering, parties, and Oviedo events.

“I have so many regulars I know by name,” says Jerry. “And I know their orders by heart.”

Several things make Bruster’s stand out from the competition, starting with the high quality of the ice cream – which is handmade in-house. Jerry’s friendly employees, many of whom are local students, also make a positive impression.

“Everybody’s sweet at the service window,” says Jerry. “And everybody’s a hard worker.”

And, Jerry takes pride in being community-oriented, supporting Oviedo schools and organizations by hosting their spirit nights.

“I want everybody to say, ‘Bruster’s... That’s our ice cream store!’” he says.
