Stefano’s Trattoria
by Georgia Rivas
For 30 years, Stefano’s Trattoria in Winter Springs has been a beloved gathering place for Central Florida families and friends. Known for its authentic Sicilian cuisine and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant has been the setting for countless birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, family dinners, and other celebrations.
Recently recognized as the Orlando Sentinel Readers' Choice Best Italian Restaurant in Central Florida, Stefano’s is entering an exciting chapter under new owner Nolan Kelly.
“I share the same philosophy as Alejandro Martinez, the previous owner, and I’m eager to carry on what was done before me,” says Nolan, whose family has managed Italian restaurants for more than three decades.
That commitment to continuity is reflected throughout the restaurant. Chef Lewis English, the kitchen team, and much of the longtime staff remain, ensuring guests continue to enjoy the traditions and familiar faces they have come to love.
An Elevated Dining Experience
While honoring Stefano’s traditions, Nolan has introduced thoughtful enhancements to elevate the guest experience.
One of the most significant upgrades happens before a pizza ever reaches the oven. Stefano’s now uses premium flour imported directly from Italy that is unbleached and free from bromated additives found in many commercial flours. The result is a dough that reflects traditional Italian standards while delivering the flavor, texture, and quality guests expect from authentic Sicilian cuisine.
That commitment to authenticity extends throughout the menu. From scratch-made sauces and fresh ingredients to recipes rooted in Sicilian tradition, every dish reflects the restaurant’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship. Signature dishes such as Tortellini di Stefano – a baked tortellini with creamy meat sauce, prosciutto, and melted mozzarella – have helped make Stefano’s a place where families dine again and again.
A new wine program featuring premium Italian and international selections, updated uniforms, gold flatware, and enhanced lighting further enhance the overall experience. Nolan describes Stefano’s as “elevated casual” – a place where exceptional food and hospitality meet a relaxed, comfortable setting.
“Stefano’s is a corner of Sicily in Winter Springs, where the food is honest, the welcome is warm, and time slows down by design,” says Nolan.
A few new items have been introduced to the menu, including garlic parmesan wings. Rotating specials such as Pizza Mondays, Half-Bottle Wine Tuesdays, and daily lunch offerings give diners even more reasons to return.
Catering, Private Events, and Celebrations
Stefano’s separate dining and bar areas make it an ideal venue for corporate gatherings and private parties, with audiovisual capabilities for presentations. Because the restaurant is closed on Sundays, the space can be reserved exclusively for private events. Stefano’s also offers off-site catering within a 30-mile radius for everything from business lunches to private dinners.
Serving the Community Beyond the Table
While food remains at the heart of the business, Nolan sees the restaurant as an opportunity to serve the community. An Oviedo resident, Rotarian, and Chamber member, he says his decision to purchase Stefano’s was rooted in faith and a desire to make a greater impact.
Nolan is currently developing a nonprofit initiative focused on partnerships with local schools, etiquette programs, and opportunities for students to learn culinary skills and bridge the digital divide.
As Stefano’s celebrates three decades in Central Florida, the restaurant continues to honor its past while embracing the future. Whether you’re discovering Stefano’s for the first time or returning to a family favorite, Nolan Kelly and the team invite you to experience why Stefano’s has remained a Central Florida tradition for 30 years.
